Hey all, the 85 extended cab truck I'm looking at picking up is in a junkyard. Anyway, the paint looks original, and around the ext. cab addition there is bondo caked on. It's so thick, you can pull off big chunks. It's split everywhere and just looks like crap? Cry This is how they did the body work on a new truck back then?? I also got a look under the missing headliner......All I can say is WOW! It looks like a hack job with teenagers doing the cutting??? Has anyone looked under their bodywork/headliner?? Just wandering if this truck was built on a "Friday afternoon or Monday morning"  Huh?!!  David

I havent looked under the headliner of any of mine, but I have heard others state that the build was less than desirable. Thats why they convered them up with plastic and upholstery. I havent noticed a large amount of bondo on any of mine, but they have been taken pretty good care of as well. Its the stretching part that I would be concerned about. It would be easy to re-skin the sides with a door skin or such. Mian concern would be cab mounts, floor (which is actually part of the old bed floor) and any large cancer spots. The technology then isnt what it is today, so we have to take that into concideration. That and the fact that these were handbuilt mass production vehicles, so Im sure alot of corners were cut to spped the build. All of the roofs of mine are metal and I dont see a seem, but like I said, I havent pulled the headliners. All of the headliners are good, and Im afraid that as soon as I touch them, they will start sagging. Take some pics of it when you can, that will be something alot of people would like to see.
